Watch for These Common Tire Problems

Car Tire

Your tires are extremely important for the safety of you, your passengers, and everyone on the roadway. Damaged car tires can decrease the performance and effectiveness of your car and will also compromise your safety. Tires are among the most used car parts that experience wear and tear, due to their continual use against hard road surfaces, rocks, road debris, and weather conditions. As a result, tires will frequently require checks and will eventually need to be replaced for fresh treads to grip the road and keep you safe and in control of your vehicle at all times.

Some Common Issues that Create Problems in Your Tires

The following are the most common issues that you may encounter with your car tire, which might impair your vehicle's performance and safety:

  • Overinflated or underinflated tires: When your tires are not correctly inflated, it can cause significant damage to your tires, limiting their ability to operate properly on any type of road.   Driving with underinflated tires can reduce your tire's lifespan, as it can be reduced by up to 25% if you continually drive with improperly inflated tires. Underinflated tires increase wear and tear on the tire's shoulder, while tires that are overinflated can cause premature deterioration in the tire's center. Both overinflated and underinflated tires can impair vehicle handling.
  • Uneven wear: When your tires are not properly inflated or have damage, they may show wear and tear signs on their outer edges rather than wear down evenly. If this happens to be the case, your tires are most likely out of alignment with the wheels. This can be corrected at our shop quickly and easily.
  • Dangerous cracks and bulges: Cracks and bulges on your tires's sidewalls are some of the most important dangers to keep an eye out for on your tires. You may get impact bulges or cracks on your tires when you hit a curb or pothole. It's a good habit to get into to look at your tires when you're getting into your car to ensure they are inflated and that you don't see any obvious sign of an impending problem.
  • Slow leaks from punctures: If you notice any change in your car's performance over time, it could be that one or even more of your car tires have slow punctures. Nails, glass, sharp rocks can become lodged in your tire and create a very slow leak. This can occur over days, weeks, or even years. If you notice one tire in particular seems to run low, there may be a very slow leak. It's best to have it checked out so you can get it plugged. This will preserve the tire and you probably wont' have to replace it until the treads are worn down.

Observation and Proper Maintenance of Your Tires

Start checking the air pressure of your tires often to see if one drops faster than the others. Fortunately, a slow leak from a minor puncture can be plugged, as long as the damage does not occur in the sidewall of the tire. If you have a faulty tire valve, it can also sporadically leak air. These valves can also be replaced easily by our shop. Simply talk to our mechanics about your concerns, and we can take a look on how to best repair your tire.

We can also help you with tire replacements. Being sure of the reliability of your tires can go a long way to driving with confidence.
